Good counseling asks questions we have not (and sometimes would rather not be) asked. The process begins to shift the center of our habits of thought and mind from externals - the context passed down through families, teachers and the social, economic and religious cultures we were brought up in - to a more interior compass where individuals can make adaptive decisions based on more complex data. We live in a world of rapid and massive change light years from the certainty of life a hundred years ago when each person pretty much knew what was expected of him or her and also knew how to go about meeting those expectations. That way of life has, for many of us, simply vanished. Less and less do we live where we spent our childhoods and even in our professions we find ourselves working in fields we did not study as undergraduates. This atmosphere, characterized by constantly evolving demands in arenas where we have little preparation, and that asks for high performance on deadline, forces us to adapt past experience and develop new approaches to the way we live. We become like turtles, carrying our sense of who we are and what we are about on our backs, and this is where counseling becomes relevant. Counseling traditionally evaluates, treats and makes recommendations about conditions that may require longer therapy or medical attention, but this is not its highest value to many. Our method helps people find their way forward as life changes instead of fixing what is mistakenly thought of as a "fault" or ''something wrong." Rather than needing an expert who can provide a stock solution to a problem, our clients want someone who can listen, ask questions, point out ignored but important aspects in their thinking In short, they want someone with whom they can collaborate to find answers that fit their lives. .If this sounds interesting to you, call or email for a no-cost exploratory conversation. |
"Balance is the key to effectiveness in intense situations - balance between the psychological and spiritual, and between personal and corporate needs. Without it, we're sunk."
- Jim Rule
